Georgia
Georgia is a transcontinental country in 
Eastern Europe and 
West Asia. He is part of the Caucasus region, bounded by the 
Black Sea to the west, 
Russia to the north and northeast, 
Turkey to the southwest, 
Armenia to the south, and 
Azerbaijan to the southeast. Georgia covers an area of 69,700 square kilometres (26,900 sq mi).
The 
Georgian Language uses an ancient alphabet unique to all other languages. Some letters look like hands and can be arranged to look like faces, which is how 
Japan was able to create a few of their emoticons, such as this: ლ(^ε^ლ).
Because Georgia share names with a 
U.S. state, 
United States often mistakes him for his own Georgia, and he hates that.
ისტორია (History)
In 1991, Georgia gained 
independence from the collapsing 
Soviet Union. Since then, he has experienced significant 
political and territorial challenges especially against Russian Federation.
Following the declaration of independence, 
Zviad Gamsakhurdia was elected as the first 
president but was soon overthrown in a 
coup, leading to 
Eduard Shevardnadze's leadership amidst civil unrest. The early 1990s were marked by the 
war in 
Abkhazia and subsequent conflicts that resulted in the de facto independence of Abkhazia and 
South Ossetia.
In 2003, the 
Rose Revolution led to 
Mikheil Saakashvili's presidency and significant 
reforms. His reforms touched nearly every sector. He abolished and rebuilt the entire traffic police (about 16,000 officers fired in one day), introduced transparent hiring, higher salaries, strict oversight, closed many 
corrupt agencies and reduced opportunities for bribery. Georgia became one of the top improvers in global corruption rankings. In the government, he eliminated hundreds of bureaucratic agencies, simplified government procedures and services, and introduced electronic services and streamlined licensing and paperwork. There were also reforms resulting in easier tax, more privatization and deregulation of 
state assets to promote 
entrepreneurship, unified national exams to prevent bribery, expanded and 
modernized the Georgian military, and repaired/modernized many urban infrastructure.
The situation at Abkhazia and South Ossetia further complicated by the 2008 Russo-Georgian War, which saw Russia invading Georgia and recognizing these regions as independent states.
The 
Georgian Dream coalition, led by 
Bidzina Ivanishvili, won the 2012 
parliamentary elections, initiating the first 
peaceful power transition in Georgia's post-Soviet 
history. Under Georgian Dream's governance, 
constitutional amendments in 2017 shifted Georgia towards a parliamentary system, reducing the presidential powers, with 
Salome Zourabichvili becoming the first 
female president in 2018.
Political tensions persisted, highlighted by the 2020 parliamentary elections and allegations of irregularities. In 2022, amid the Russian invasion of 
Ukraine, Georgia submitted his application for 
EU membership, wanting to be more closely allied with the West to be protected against Russia.
In October 2024, Georgia approved of a law that 
restrains 
LGBTQ+ rights.
