==== Beginnings (1917) ====
In WWI, Germany wanted to remove Russia from the battlefield. So they sent Vladimir Lenin to Russia to cause more turmoil. Lenin overthrew the Russian Republic, establishing the RSFSR in 1917. The first election was held, and Lenin’s party lost. He immediately declared the elected party as an "enemy of the people", and overthrew the democratic government by force. This was the origin of all violent communist movements, and the countless catastrophes that followed.

But Russia descended into civil war between many different factions.
USSR got right into his far-left business. In 1918, he introduced the family code, which legalized civil marriage, made divorce easy, and decriminalized abortion. He tried to replace families with collective childcare and communal kitchens. But that led to a crisis in juvenile crime and homelessness. Homeless orphans were one of the worst "national embarrassment" to the USSR, so he started killing them in the streets.

Technically, the period of the Soviet Russia before 1922 was not the Soviet Union, but he is still usually referred to as such.
=== Leninist Era (1922-1924) ===
In 1922, after the conclusion of major military campaigns left the Bolsheviks Bolsheviks the de facto victor in the Russian civil war, the USSR faced immediate crises of his own making. Enthusiastically implemented Marxism Marxist policies had led to widespread famine and suffering across Russia, killing millions of people. The communist leadership was forced to roll back much of their political program - retroactively termed "WarCom war communism" – and institute the NEP New Economic Policy (NEP). This was an effective truce with the Russian peasantry, as they were allowed to work their own land and sell crops without intervention from the state.
However, the Soviet communists never intended the NEP as anything other than an emergency measure to stave off imminent rebellion. During the famine caused by war communism, a friend of Lenin's remarked that the disaster he'd orchestrated was good in that it would "destroy faith not only in the Tsar tsar, but in Monotheism God too."
Also in 1922, Lenin passed a secret resolution stipulating that all valuables must be removed from churches and other religious institutions "with ruthless resolution, leaving nothing in doubt, and in the very shortest time." | Also in 1922, Lenin passed a secret resolution stipulating that all valuables must be removed from churches and other Religion religious institutions "with ruthless resolution, leaving nothing in doubt, and in the very shortest time."

Commie Communist regimes use terror and mass murder as a means of reinforcing their Dictatorship dictatorships, such as in the case with the Soviet Union. In 1928, the NEP New Economic Policy was scrapped and replaced with collective farms controlled by the regime. Russian peasants, who objected to having their land and grain seized, put of stiff resistance. They would pay dearly for their disobedience.
The early family codes created by Lenin Lenin proved to be disastrous, with huge amounts of orphans roaming the streets. So, Stalin Stalin, in a Pragmatism pragmatic move, rolled back these policies, restricting divorce, banning abortion, and glorifying motherhood. (MarxC Marx would not be proud…)
In July 1929, ROC China tried to take back the Chinese Eastern Railway in Manchu Manchuria, so he occupied it. Soviet wasn't happy about that, so he sent troops to fight the Chinese. This was known as the Sino-Soviet conflict. China was also supported by the WhiteMove White guerrillas. Throughout the war, 5000 Chinese were lost, and USSR claimed that only 800 of his men had died, though modern estimates figure that he was lying and way more people actually died. By the late 1980s, the USSR had became a "donut empire". Usually in empires, the Centralism centralized core part is the most rich, but it was not the case anymore with USSR. The rich areas were places like CzechoslovakiaCommie Czechoslovakia. Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), more commonly known as the Soviet Union, was a
communist regime that spanned across Eurasia. He was a global superpower, and was also extremely un-free. He wouldn’t hesitate to commit genocide or murder his closest ranks if they slightly disagree with him. He also hates
religions, believing that there is
no god except for him. The Soviet Union also has almost no acknowledgement for human life, viewing them simply as objects or threats that are easily disposable. The Soviet Union also produces a lot of resources, but almost none goes to their own people. He is also infamous for his deadly purges among his own men.
Being the first ever communist state, he embodies the entire stereotype of
communism. Even today, many people associate
Russians with communism. Wanting to spread communist influence, USSR is also responsible for propping up other ![]()
murderous regimes that killed millions.
The USSR doesn't like saving hostages, because in his mind, hostages are traitors who defected ideologically which allowed them to be taken hostage in the first place.
History
Background Info (1917-1922)
Main Article:
Bolshevik Government
Beginnings (1917)
In WWI,
Germany wanted to remove Russia from the battlefield. So they sent
Vladimir Lenin to Russia to cause more turmoil. Lenin overthrew the
Russian Republic, establishing the
RSFSR in 1917. The first election was held, and
Lenin’s party lost. He immediately declared the
elected party as an "enemy of the people", and overthrew the democratic government by force. This was the origin of all violent communist movements, and the countless catastrophes that followed.
Russian Civil War (1917-1922)
After the overthrow of the
democratic government,
Lenin became the new ruler of the regime in 1917.
In 1919, Lenin introduced a new Party program that included the large-scale elimination of
religion across the USSR.
In 1919, the May 4th movement in
China, the newly founded Soviet Union saw this as a great opportunity to spread communism and immediately seized it. So he offered to give up all the taken land, wealth, minerals, railways and more that the
Russian Empire gained. Did he keep this promise? Of course not. But this sweet of an offer is hard to resist, and made many Chinese think that the Soviets were the friendliest allies or some kind of savior, and led to
Sun Yat-sen’s alignment with the Soviets. This might be the biggest mistake of Sun's entire life.
In 1922, USSR took over the clays of several countries, such as the ![]()
![]()
Baltics and
Ukraine, making them Soviet republics and officially creating the
Soviet Union. Technically, the period of the Soviet Russia before 1922 was not the Soviet Union, but he is still usually referred to as such.
Leninist Era (1922-1924)
In 1922, after the conclusion of major military campaigns left the
Bolsheviks the de facto victor in the Russian civil war, the USSR faced immediate crises of his own making. Enthusiastically implemented
Marxist policies had led to widespread famine and suffering across Russia, killing millions of people. The communist leadership was forced to roll back much of their political program - retroactively termed "
war communism" – and institute the
New Economic Policy (NEP). This was an effective truce with the Russian peasantry, as they were allowed to work their own land and sell crops without intervention from the state.
However, the Soviet communists never intended the NEP as anything other than an emergency measure to stave off imminent rebellion. During the famine caused by war communism, a friend of Lenin's remarked that the disaster he'd orchestrated was good in that it would "destroy faith not only in the
tsar, but in
God too."
Also in 1922, Lenin passed a secret resolution stipulating that all valuables must be removed from churches and other
religious institutions "with ruthless resolution, leaving nothing in doubt, and in the very shortest time."
Lenin died in 1924, and
Stalin succeeded him in power and in killing people.
Stalinist Era (1924-1953)
Communist regimes use terror and mass murder as a means of reinforcing their
dictatorships, such as in the case with the Soviet Union. In 1928, the
New Economic Policy was scrapped and replaced with collective farms controlled by the regime. Russian peasants, who objected to having their land and grain seized, put of stiff resistance. They would pay dearly for their disobedience.
The early family codes created by
Lenin proved to be disastrous, with huge amounts of orphans roaming the streets. So,
Stalin, in a
pragmatic move, rolled back these policies, restricting divorce, banning abortion, and glorifying motherhood. (
Marx would not be proud…)
In July 1929,
China tried to take back the Chinese Eastern Railway in
Manchuria, so he occupied it. Soviet wasn't happy about that, so he sent troops to fight the Chinese. This was known as the Sino-Soviet conflict. China was also supported by the
White guerrillas. Throughout the war, 5000 Chinese were lost, and USSR claimed that only 800 of his men had died, though modern estimates figure that he was lying and way more people actually died. In December, Soviet won, and he controlled the
Bolshoy Ussuriysky Island.
In 1929, USSR wanted to make a new week system, because he thought people weren’t working enough and didn’t like them having Sundays off. The Soviet leadership also hated everything
religious. His "Soviet Calendar" originally had 5 days in a week plus six weeks in a month. This was later changed to 6 days a week.

” | |
In the 1930s, the Soviets began to seize grain, potatoes and other foods from good-farming places, causing severe famine in
Ukraine and
Kazakhstan. Millions of lives were lost. And during
Joseph Stalin’s purges in the 1930s, the Soviet communists slaughtered more than twenty million so-called spies and traitors, as well as those with dissenting opinions.
Joseph Stalin created a system called the GULAG (Glavnoye Upravleniye LAGerey), or Main Camp Administration. This is a system of concentration camps were prisoners do harsh forced labor. If anyone slightly disagrees with the state, he or she will be sent to a gulags. Gulags are common among the cold region of
Siberia. The survival rate in a gulag is around 30-50%. The Soviet government claims 1.6 million people have perished in gulags, though the real numbers could be way higher. The gulag lasted from 1918 to 1953, and at least 14 million people have been imprisoned in them. The gulags were the inspiration for the concentration camps in
Nazi Germany. Today, the gulag is a symbol of communist oppression.
Meanwhile, in 1938, Soviet Union had some skirmishes with
Imperial Japan's expansion into
Manchuria, resulting in a non-aggression pact that year.
For more information, see
Soviet Union in World War II
In 1939,
Nazi Germany and the Soviets signed a non-aggression pact, and preceded to invade and split up
Poland, starting WWII.
In 1940, the Soviet Calendar was switched back to the regular 7 day week in 1940 because it’s stupid and inconvenient.
Germany broke the non-aggression pact in 1941 and invaded USSR, and got pretty far until the winter came and pushed the
Nazi forces back to
Germany.
After WWII,
USA and USSR became nuclear superpowers and are now against each other. The Soviets made puppet states out of most of Eastern Europe. The Soviets engaged in multiple proxy wars, supporting the
communist side. In the Korean and Vietnam wars, the Soviets gave a lot of support to
North Korea and
North Vietnam. USSR was also competing with
USA in technology. USSR sent a lot of spies to America to spy on their technology and also try to spread
communist influence from within (which worked far better than the Soviets expected). In the Space Race, the Soviets sent the first satellite and first man into space.
In 1953,
Stalin died, ending the
Stalinist Era.
Post-Stalinist Era (1953-1979)
The government of the Soviet Union always held a monopoly on all foreign trade activity, but only after the death of
Joseph Stalin in 1953 did the government accord importance to foreign trade activities.
In 1957, the Soviets captured a stray dog named Laika, and launched her into space in a rocket to orbit
Earth, making her the first dog that was in space and the first animal in orbit. This experiment was meant to be one-way so their was no things that could bring Laika back, so she unfortunately died of overheating a few hours into orbit.
In December 1979, USSR invaded
Afghanistan.
Decline & Collapse (1979-1991)
The collapse of the Soviet Union, a momentous event of the 20th century, wasn't a sudden one. It was a culmination of several factors that chipped away at the foundation of the communist state over a period of time. The Soviet economy, heavily reliant on centralized planning and state control, had stagnated for years. Shortages of consumer goods were common, and a black market thrived.
Reforms like Perestroika, meant to revitalize the economy, had mixed results and even led to inflation. These attempted “reforms” also triggered the Sino-Soviet split, as
Maoist China saw the reforms as traitorous
capitalist acts.
By the 1980s, not many people truly believed in communism anymore. But there was still a residual fear of speaking opinions publicly and being critical of the regime.
Soviet foreign trade played only a minor role in the Soviet economy. In 1985, for example, exports and imports each accounted for only 4 percent of the Soviet gross national product. The Soviet Union maintained this low level because he could draw upon a large energy and raw material base, and because he historically had pursued a policy of self-sufficiency.
By the late 1980s, the USSR had became a "donut empire". Usually in empires, the
centralized core part is the most rich, but it was not the case anymore with USSR. The rich areas were places like
Czechoslovakia. Everything from other places would be labeled "importnaya" meaning "imported" (instead of their country of origin), and they were all better than the stuff USSR got, and that's a really bad sign.
On April 7, 1989, the Soviet nuclear submarine K-278 Komsomolets sank in the
Norwegian Sea after a catastrophic fire.
USSR’s puppet states like
Poland also broke away from
communism, reducing Soviet influence significantly.
The USSR was a multi-ethnic state, with many distinct nationalities within his borders. This rise in
nationalism threatened the Soviet state. In August 1991, a group of hard-line communist officials attempted a coup to overthrow
Gorbachev, the last leader of the Soviets. The coup failed, since it had no support from the rank-and-file Party members or the general public, and the conspirators were arrested or committed suicide. But still, it further exposed the weakness of the central government and emboldened the independence movements in the republics.
A
McDonalds store, the greatest symbol of
American capitalism, was opened in downtown
Moscow in 1990. People formed huge lines all around the block. This was American influence right in the heart of the Soviet Union, this was a sign that the Cold War was over. This was a sign that
America has won.
These factors all came to a head in late 1991. By December, several republics had declared independence, and the remaining Soviet republics dissolved the Soviet Union himself. The USSR officially ceased to exist on December 26, 1991 (see “Succeeded by” section in the infobox).
Culture
USSR destroyed Russia’s culture and replaced it with Soviet propaganda.
Soviet aesthetics usually include faces of
communist leaders in red and white, people holding hammers and sickles, and five-pointed stars.

Trivia
- In 1945 Soviet schoolchildren gave an
US ambassador a carved American seal as a gesture of friendship. The ambassador hung it in his office for seven years. Turns out there was a listening device planted in the seal, and it was nothing more than a dishonorable spy device. This also proved that Soviet spies in the West were way more common then most people think - USSR was the first country that can into space.
