This article is about the political side of Catholicism. For the general side, refer to
this page.
Catholic Theocracy, sometimes shortened to CathTheo, is an
authoritarian,
culturally right, and economically center to center-left
theocratic ideology inhabiting the upper center political compass. CathTheo seeks to have the values of the
Catholic faith upheld as the law and to have a state very closely tied to the
Catholic Church.
The head of state of Catholic Theocracy is the
pope, who is elected by the
College of Cardinals (an assembly of high-ranking clergy). The pope is elected for life, and either dies in office, or in extremely rare situations may resign. The cardinals are appointed by the popes, who thereby choose the electors of their successors. Voting is limited to cardinals under 80 years of age.
A
Secretary for Relations with States is appointed by the pope to handle
international relations. The Catholic Theocracy's legal system is rooted in canon law. The Bishop of Rome, as the Supreme Pontiff, has the fullness of legislative, executive and judicial powers.
History
The concept of Catholic Theocracy has his roots in the early formation of the Church. After the collapse of the
Western Roman Empire in the 5th century, the
Catholic Church emerged as one of the most powerful institutions in
Europe, assuming not only spiritual authority but also significant political influence.
The first true Catholic Theocracy was established in 756 when
Pope Stephen II sought protection from the
Lombards and received land in the
Italian Peninsula from the
Frankish king
Pepin the Short. This territory, later expanded by
Pepin's son
Charlemagne, became the
Papal States, which were governed directly by the pope until 1870.
The
Vatican City remains as the only Catholic Theocracy today.
Beliefs
Catholic Theocracy believes that church and state are inseparable and that the Head of the Catholic Church (Pope) should also act as the Head of State.
Catholic Theocracy considered the
Jewish people as a collective responsible for the killing of
Christ. He was also
anti-Judaist,
Judaism was considered a null religion and several attempts for conversion into
Catholicism were made. All that changed after CVII in 1965.
Relationships
Fratres
Christian Theocracy -
Jesus was catholic, right?
Distributism - A friend of
Leo XIII is a friend of mine.
Christian Democracy - Another good friend, you are great for defending Catholic values in
liberal democracies, even if some of you are
protestants.
Crusadism
- DEUS VULT! TAKE BACK THE HOLY LAND FROM THOSE
MUSLIM INVADERS!! But nowadays I can't directly call out support for you, I am sorry…
Elective Monarchism - The system used for choosing the new Pope is electoral. But there's still only ~200 eligible voters at any given point.
Mercantilism - Just a lil' help with construction and art.
Patchwork - Me in the modern day. I have a billion followers and phenomenal power over them, but
itty-bitty living space. I still miss the bigger 🏳️ Papal States though.
National Democracy - My friend in
Poland.
Francoism - Avenge the victims of Red Terror.
Traditionalism - The Church has no fear of the truth. She has always been, and will always be, the guardian of Tradition.
Mixtum
Orthodox Theocracy - You reject the filioque and papal supremacy and are therefore a heretic, neither
monarchs nor
emperors have authority over the Pope! But, we both hate
Protestantism and love tradition.
Bonapartism - Thank you for restoring me in
France, but did you have to invade the
Papal States? Also did you just crown yourself? You can't do that!
Jewish Theocracy - I aided your escape in WW2, but I will not recant my contempt for your religious beliefs.
Reactionary Modernism - I appreciate the support but I beg of you to go outside as the games of yours might have rotted your brain.
Capitalism - I condemn you in Rerum Novarum. Still way better than
communism though.
Heretic
Protestant Theocracy - Why do you even keep existing after I stopped selling indulgences?
Lutheran Theocracy - You’re the one responsible for
this mess! Stop criticizing me!
Islamic Theocracy - Even though I'm no longer deus vulting you, the
Jerusalem is mine! *Starts another crusade*
Vatican does not even recognize or hold formal relations with
Saudi Arabia.
Jewish Theocracy (until 1965) - Null religion! You killed
Jesus!
State Atheism -
Kid toucher you call me, but it's the godless school teachers and
Protestant televangelists that molest a thousand times more than I ever did. And hey, what was that you said about the age of consent?
Kleptocracy - On top of commandment #7, the
HRE attempted to weaken me via simony, and corruption inside me (which I later got rid of) caused
them to show up.
Marxism-Leninism - You imprison my followers in prison labor camps! Remove! Burn in hell!
Jacobinism - I will never forgive you for defacing Notre Dame. Plus you promote this "supreme being" idolatry. Complete nonsense.
Eugenicism - Absolute abomination. While I am fine with the teaching of genetics and
evolution (except for my more
traditionalist followers), you literally advocate the idea of playing God!
State Shintō -
Amakusa Shirō's stuggle will not be forgotten.
LGBTQ Movement - Your actions are intrinsically disordered.
