== History ==
[[File:TurkmenSSR-icon.png]] [[Turkmen Soviet Socialist Republic|Turkmenistan]] gained independence from the [[File:USSR-icon.png]] [[Union of Soviet Socialist Republics]] on 26 December 1991. Throughout the post-Soviet era, Turkmenistan has taken a neutral position on almost all international issues. He offered limited support to the military campaign against the [[File:Taliban-icon.png]] [[Taliban]] following the 11 September 2001 attacks.
