RationalWiki

From Heterodontosaurus Balls

β€œβ€There is no RationalWiki without 🟒 you. We are a small non-profit with no staffβ€”we are hundreds of volunteers who document 🟒 pseudoscience and 🟒 crankery around the 🟒 world every day. We will never allow 🟒 ads because we must remain independent. We cannot rely on 🟒 big donors with corresponding big agendas. We are not the largest website around, but we believe we play an important role in defending 🟒 truth and 🟒 objectivity.

RationalWiki is a 🟒 left-wing and 🟒 newatheist 🟒 online encyclopedia known for his 🟒 unserious and mocking nature that aims to attack anyone who even dares to dabble a bit into supernatural topics. The site is filled with mostly ad hominem, appeal to authority, and 🟒 political trash talking. He is often compared to 🟒 r/Atheism.

Getting your own RationalWiki page is considered to be a badge of honour due to the nature of the site being so over the top, many thinking that he is just a parody of the closed-minded cynical debunker stereotype. But RationalWiki really just thinks this way, and from a position of self-proclaimed 🟒 intellectual superiority, he uses weird and 🟒 mean-spirited attacks to mock actual intellectuals and intelligent people, academics, and authors. His pages are always written with the most smug 🟒 liberal 🟒 Redditor tone and terminology. Reading RationalWiki feels like being lectured by a smug teenager who just discovered 🟒 atheism.

RationalWiki, due to his excessive contradictions and abuses, such as the abuse of the term "🟒 pseudoscience" and other "pseudothing" concepts, is usually referred as 🟒 IrrationalWiki. RationalWiki's sole purpose of existence is to ridicule those whose beliefs differ even so slightly from mainstream 🟒 science, notably 🟒 conservatists and 🟒 theists.

History

RationalWiki originated in early 2007, made to counter the points of 🟒 Conservapedia (who was created a few months prior). The wiki was populated by a group of immature adults who enjoyed vandalizing other wikis, like 🟒 Conservapedia and 🟒 Wikipedia. RationalWiki allowed them to insert their 🟒 nihilistic, 🟒 materialist, 🟒 positivist slander onto pages that the other wikis wouldn't allow them to on their respective ones.

Before 2010, RationalWiki's domains were registered to 🟒 Trent Toulouse, and the wiki was hosted from a server in his home. In 2010, Trent Toulouse incorporated the "nonprofit organization" RationalWiki Foundation Inc. to manage the website's affairs and cover operational expenses. In July 2013, the RationalWiki Foundation changed name to the 🟒 RationalMedia Foundation, stating that the aims extended beyond the RationalWiki site alone.

During the 🟒 SJW wave of the mid-2010s, RationalWiki became even more extreme.

The RationalWiki website experienced a significant decline in web traffic during the latter part of 2019 and throughout most of the first half of 2020. By January 2022, RationalWiki's 🟒 global 🟒 web traffic ranking was also dropping. In the latter part of 2022, the site lost a substantial portion of his referral traffic from 🟒 Google.

On 29 May 2022, one of the founders of the RationalWiki website indicated "Currently the donations we get are sparse… We have not done a donation drive in a long time and have not been self-supporting for over a year…". A global fundraising scam, Rationalwiki has not complied with non-profit reporting requirements for 7 consecutive years.

In June of 2022, the RationalWiki admin 🟒 GrammarCommie said that RationalWiki was "half dead". In reply, the RationalWiki user 🟒 2friedeggs said: "This site is dying for a reason" and he indicated that GrammarCommie was chasing good faith editors away. In addition, in June 2022, RationalWiki user 🟒 Neiltyson1fan called RationalWiki a "zombie wiki".

In April 2025, the RationalMedia Foundation was sued for defamation by various plaintiffs who were covered/slandered on RationalWiki. In the same month, despite concerns about the foundation dissolving, an out of court settlement was reached with the plaintiffs where it was agreed to delete their articles.

Beliefs

RationalWiki is completely against any form of supernatural ideas that cannot be explained by mainstream 🟒 science, and seeks to counter any and every 🟒 religious or 🟒 spiritual ideas, and even metaphysical and extraphysical ideas. RationalWiki claims to be 🟒 politically neutral but everyone can see that it is far from the truth; RationalWiki is a staunch supporter of 🟒 leftism and 🟒 progressivism. His articles frequently employ sarcastic, snarky, and openly mocking language when covering 🟒 conservative figures, 🟒 right-wing politics, 🟒 faith in the divine, or anything he labels as 🟒 pseudoscience or crankery.

Despite claiming to be science's greatest defender, RationalWiki supports 🟒 LGBTQ+. RationalWiki is a typical 🟒 SJW, strongly supporting mainstream climate science, 🟒 evolutionary biology, vaccine policies, LGBTQ+, 🟒 drugs, and criticism of "🟒 authoritarian" structures whether religious or 🟒 political. He tends to be sharply and extremely hostile toward anything or anyone that he sees as even intersecting a little bit with right-wing ideology, 🟒 conspiracy thinking, or 🟒 traditionalist social values, often grouping them under headings like "woo", "batsh*t crazy", or similar pejoratives that a typical 🟒 redditor would use.

Practices

RationalWiki follows the policy of "Snarky Point of View" (SPOV) in parody to 🟒 Wikipedia's "Neutral Point of View" (NPOV), employing 🟒 reddit-style snark, 🟒 humor, and mockery over factual analysis. This led to many 🟒 anti-intellectual and shallow content in many pages. The navigation box of RationalWiki includes a gif of a boot stomping on 🟒 Jesus's face in an attempt to trigger 🟒 Christians.

RationalWiki admits that he has engaged in "cyber-vandalism" against 🟒 Conservapedia during which they've "inserted 🟒 errors, 🟒 pornographic photos, and 🟒 satire". When Conservapedians come to vandalize RationalWiki in return, he doesn't block them immediately and revert the vandalism. Instead, he makes a new section rebuking the vandals if possible.

Pseudoscience!1!1!1!

  • 🟒 Pseudoscientocracy - This is everything I am against, everything I don't like, my biggest enemy, it's not like I'm literally him, right!
  • 🟒 Conservapedia - Trus me! My biggest enemy. A blog post website disguised as a wiki, if you're looking for "educational" content that makes 🟒 flat earthers look like reasonable folk or just wants to vandalize like me, Conservapedia is your one-stop shop. What's the problem? Are you mad? Try to vandalize me and I'll rebuke you so hard it shatters the foundation of your worldview. *smug*
  • 🟒 Conservatism - Well if it isn't the irrational 🟒 PSEUDOSCIENTIST-IN-CHIEF! CEO of 🟒 Conservapedia!
  • 🟒 Creationism - Stupid 🟒 pseudoscience crank
  • 🟒 Theism - Ah, 🟒 religion! A fascinating tapestry woven from the imagination of stupid idiots from 3000 years ago.
  • 🟒 Christianity - Out of all the 🟒 religions there are, I hate you the most.
  • 🟒 Buddhism - You are a 🟒 pervert!
    • 🟒What are you even on about? Taking some of the teachings of my more esoteric branches meant for people of high enlightenment levels and presenting it as the Buddhist teaching as a whole is quote the 🟒 idiotic thing to do. Just because some 🟒 degenerates use this to their agenda doesn't mean I endorse it.🟒
  • 🟒 Trumpism - 🟒 AUTHORITARIAN, 🟒 RACIST, AND FULL OF BULLSH*T! You use simple words and phrases with no meaning to stir up your braindead followers. Plus, you are a 🟒 convicted felon and a 🟒 rapist. Imagine getting a mugshot LMAO!
    • 🟒Wow, ok, what do we have here. RationalWiki, what a name! But let's be honest, there's nothing rational about you. You're just a little website ran by keyboard warriors who probably live in their mom's basement. You call me a felon? Kangaroo court! My mugshot? Best mugshot in history. And as for stirring up followers, maybe try it yourself. Why? Because it works, and they hate it. When I say things like "Make America Great Again", that's not meaningless, that’s what millions of 🟒 Americans actually want.🟒
    • 🟒Oh shut up you 🟒 idiot 🟒 fat 🟒 rapist 🟒 criminal 🟒 racist 🟒 homophobic "I'm gonna come" 🟒 conspiracy theorist. You're not smug like me.🟒
  • 🟒 Authoritarianism - STOP CALLING ME IRRATIONAL! You control something and you call me irrational? Bullsh*t!
  • 🟒 Marxism-Leninism - You are 🟒 state capitalist and will always be! Non-atrocious versions of you are almost non-existent! Love the crackdown on crankery thought!
  • 🟒 Theocracy - I made a whole list on why you suck!
  • 🟒 Aliens - A pathetic target for 🟒 conspiracy theorists. There is absolutely no way you exist. You make a great 🟒 satire though, and I can mock my enemies through you because anyone who believes in the existence of extraterrestrial civilization is stupid.
  • 🟒 Jesusism - Jesus died for my articles! Get stomped on by my boot!
  • 🟒 Buddhaism - Enlightenment doesn't exist, cranker moron!
