The Earth is one of the 4 rocky planets in our ๐ŸŸข Solar System, the third closest to the ๐ŸŸข Sun. She is the planet that we live on, and the only planet that have been confirmed to harbor life. The Earth is mainly made up of oceans (large bodies of salt water) and dirt. ๐ŸŸข Scientists have speculated that the inside of the Earth contains molten magma and an extremely hard core (but we have never actually been to the insides of the Earth).

According to scientists, the Earth was formed about 4.5 billion years ago. Since then, there have been lots of life on the planet, varying from bacteria, fungi, plants, animals, and more. ๐ŸŸข Humans became the most advanced and dominant species on Earth. ๐ŸŸข Atheists think the ๐ŸŸข truth to the origin of life is the ๐ŸŸข evolutionist Darwinian theory, where all life emerged from a common ancestor (single-celled organism), and with enough time a fish could turn into a human by "adapting" to the environment through changing their genes and creating new genes out from nothing. ๐ŸŸข Theists believes that all things, including this Earth and life was created from ๐ŸŸข a creator ๐ŸŸข or ๐ŸŸข several deities.

Earth doesn't like when her humans ๐ŸŸข fight and cause destruction. In some comics, humans are portrayed as parasites to the Earth, infecting her and making her think crazy things (such as the Sun revolves around Earth). Earth is also the deadliest planet because 99.999% of humans died on Earth

The standard astronomical symbols of Earth are a quartered circle (๐Ÿœจ) representing the four corners of the world, and a globus cruciger (โ™).

History

Note: this section is based off of speculation and includes theories that may or may not be entirely truthful.

The ๐ŸŸข history of the Earth is a long one, for sure. The date of the Earth's formation is generally accepted by mainstream ๐ŸŸข scientists is 4.5 MYA (million years ago), though some groups such as the ๐ŸŸข young Earth creationists believe differently due to ๐ŸŸข Biblical implications.

Before ๐ŸŸข Humankind came about and inhabited the Earth, there had been many different planets and lifeforms in the location of "Earth", but eventually their ๐ŸŸข moral failure led them to be destroyed with a few ๐ŸŸข good ones relocated to other celestial bodies.

Hadean Eon (4.5 bya-4 bya)

The ๐ŸŸข Hadean Eon was the earliest stage of Earth's life, characterized by an unliveable environment filled with lava and asteroids. Earth has been formed by combining rocks (planetesimals) that orbits the ๐ŸŸข Sun during around 4567 MYA. She was a hot rock of magma, and not protected by an atmosphere nor magnetic field. "Baby" Earth was very vulnerable.

These early conditions on Earth, with the hostile environment and frequent impacts, eventually gave way to a period known as the ๐ŸŸข Late Heavy Bombardment around 4 billion years ago. During this time, numerous comets and asteroids bombarded the planet. The surface of the Earth was almost entirely molten rock. Riddled with volcanism, the wildly inhospitable planet orbits the ๐ŸŸข Sun further out than it does today. The Earth rotates rapidly, revolving on her axis once every few hours. A day was just 4 hours 10 minutes 4500 million years ago.

Around 4.4 billion years ago, ๐ŸŸข scientists speculate that ๐ŸŸข Theia, a hypothetical ๐ŸŸข Mars-sized planet entity, became too close to Earth and crashed into her, causing Theia to die. The debris of the impact orbited around the Earth, forming a ring. The ring packed onto the ๐ŸŸข Moon in just a few million years. Another theory is that the Earth was spinning really fast and causing a chunk of mass being stretched out and eventually thrown into space, forming the Moon.

Archean Eon (4.0 bya-2.5 bya)

Gradually, around 4000 million years ago, the Earth's surface cooled, forming a solid crust and stabilizing the climate, thus began the ๐ŸŸข Archean Eon. This also allowed for the existence of liquid water. Volcanic outgassing created a primitive atmosphere, and as the planet continued to change, Earth eventually became hospitable enough to support life. The liquid core had formed and created magnetic field, which protected the planet from harmful ๐ŸŸข solar radiation and helped maintain a stable environment. The planetesimals and icy planets from the ๐ŸŸข Hadean had hit the earth, containing ๐ŸŸข Carbon, ๐ŸŸข Nitrogen, ๐ŸŸข Hydrogen and ๐ŸŸข Oxygen, leading to the ๐ŸŸข first ocean to form, but water was too toxic to support life. Rain came down and the landscape shifted and changed. Earth also underwent multiple global ice ages, known as "๐ŸŸข Snowball Earth".

Proterozoic Eon (2.5 bya-538 mya)

As the atmosphere developed and the planet cooled further around 2500 mya, water began to condense, leading to the formation of non-toxic oceans, and the ๐ŸŸข Proterozoic Eon began. These bodies of water played a crucial role in the development of life, providing a medium in which chemical reactions could take place. The first lifeforms appeared, during near the end of the Precambrian period (all time on Earth before the Cambrian). These lifeforms include bacteria and weird enigmatic, tubular, frond-shaped, and mostly sessile, organisms known as Ediacaran biota.

Phanerozoic Eon (538 mya-)

As the ๐ŸŸข Phanerozoic Eon began 538.8 mya, life took hold of the planet. The next 289 million years, known as the Paleozoic Era, saw the creatures of the waters thrive, and also many plants, amphibians and land-dwelling reptiles appeared. This era had some of the most bizarre looking creatures of all time. The Cambrian Explosion, a sudden increase in more advanced creatures, happened for 13-25 million years (this event could not be explained by ๐ŸŸข mainstream science). Approximately 335 mya, a supercontinent termed "Pangaea" was formed. The Paleozoic also experienced four mass extinction events, the last one being the worst in Earth's history.

Approximately 251.9 mya, life on Earth experienced a great dying, known as the Permian-Triassic Extinction Event. 80%-90% of all species died out, and it marked a boundary between the Paleozoic and Mesozoic eras.

The Mesozoic Era, which lasted 186 million years. This era was dubbed the "age of the dinosaurs" because in this era, the dinosaurs dominated every corner of the globe. By 200 mya during the Triassic-Jurassic transition period, the supercontinent Pangaea began to break apart. After a mass extinction event (usually thought as an asteroid impact) 66 mya, the dinosaurs were completely wiped out.

From the mass extinction of the dinosaurs 66 mya to the present day is known as the Cenozoic Era, where mammals and birds took the dinosaur's throne and became the dominant species group (albeit not as dominant as the dinosaurs). Eventually, no more than one million years ago, the modern ๐ŸŸข human civilization appeared.

Humans almost instantly dominated the world and became the most powerful and fastest advanced species on Earth. They developed farming, which helped sustainably feed a large population. Many civilizations also recall a "great flood" event that happened long ago. As their technology grew and advanced, humanity became arrogant and have caused great ๐ŸŸข environmental destruction to Earth.

Human Observations (4000 BC-)

As the modern ๐ŸŸข Humankind came about civilization around 6,000 years ago, people began realizing their home. Many different cultures had different views on the Earth and her tendencies. ๐ŸŸข Creation myths in many ๐ŸŸข religions involve the creation of Earth by a supernatural ๐ŸŸข deity or ๐ŸŸข deities.

๐ŸŸข Ancient Greece (1200 BC-600) believed that Earth was a goddess named Mother Gaia. Later, ๐ŸŸข Ancient Rome (753 BC-476) adopted this goddess and renamed her "Terra". As with Gaia/Terra was a personified goddess in ๐ŸŸข Greco-Roman Religion, so was she in other forms of European ๐ŸŸข Paganism. The ๐ŸŸข Germanics worshipped a goddess named Nerthus, referred to as "Terra Mater" by Roman historian ๐ŸŸข Tacitus. The ๐ŸŸข Nordics worshipped a goddess called Jรถrรฐ, a giantess often given as the mother of Thor. In today's ๐ŸŸข internet culture, Earth can still be said to be personified as seen on comics made by fans.

Because the Earth seemed flat on the surface, many ancient people naturally thought that the Earth was shaped like a ๐ŸŸข flat disk. However, Ancient Greeks phased out that idea, with philosophers like ๐ŸŸข Pythagoras and ๐ŸŸข Parmenides proposing an idea of the correct spherical Earth during the sixth and fifth centuries BC.

Physical Characteristics

Atmosphere

Earth's atmospheric pressure averages at 101.325 kPa (kiloPascals), with the height being about 8.5 km. A dry atmosphere is primarily composed of 78.084% ๐ŸŸข nitrogen, 20.946% ๐ŸŸข oxygen, 0.934% ๐ŸŸข argon, and trace amounts of ๐ŸŸข carbon dioxide and other gaseous molecules. Water vapor content varies between 0.01% and 4% but averages about 1%. Clouds cover around two-thirds of Earth's surface, more so over oceans than land. Earth is the only planet in our solar system with a breathable atmosphere, for ๐ŸŸข humans at least.

Earth's lifeforms have changed her composition dramatically. For example, around 2.7 billion years ago, photosynthetic organisms released oxygen into the atmosphere. Some of this oxygen formed the ozone layer, ๐ŸŸข 0โ‚ƒ. For reference, "normal" (diatomic) oxygen is ๐ŸŸข Oโ‚‚. Ozone protects Earth from ๐ŸŸข ultraviolet radiation. As another example, greenhouse gases (such as carbon dioxide and water vapor) have kept Earth warm. Without them, her temperature would be โˆ’18 ยฐC (0 ยฐF).

Composition

Earth is a terrestrial planet, meaning she is made of rocky materials. Her most common elements are ๐ŸŸข iron, ๐ŸŸข oxygen, ๐ŸŸข silicon, ๐ŸŸข magnesium, ๐ŸŸข sulfur, ๐ŸŸข nickel, ๐ŸŸข calcium, and ๐ŸŸข aluminium. The remainder (1.2%) consists of trace elements.

๐ŸŸข Scientists speculate that Earth is divided into four layers. From outside to inside, they are the crust, mantle, outer core, and inner core. The core is mostly made of iron and nickel, while the crust is mostly made of oxides, such as silicates. The mantle is also mostly made of oxides (silicates and magnesium oxides being the most common) and possibly ๐ŸŸข Theia's remains. The average matter density of Earth is 5.51 g/cmยณ, which, among the ๐ŸŸข Solar System's planetary-sized objects, is the highest density.

Earth can also into magnetic field, thought to be generated in the core. The core is the site of a dynamo process that converts the kinetic energy of thermally and compositionally driven convection into electrical and magnetic field energy. The field extends outwards from the core, through the mantle, and up to Earth's surface, where it is, approximately, a dipole. This field guides many species like birds to fly a certain path when migrating.

Surface Features

Earth holds many unusual surface features due to her unique climate. Her most notable surface features are her continents and oceans, which are the result of plate tectonics. Because of her atmosphere, there is a lack of craters due to erosion. Plate tectonics constantly jostles continents around, sometimes merging them into a single supercontinent. Plate tectonics is also responsible for creating many of Earth's mountain ranges and underwater trenches. The current formation of the tectonic plates have not moved for at least a millennia.

About 70% of Earth's surface is liquid water, with the remaining 20% being land.

  1. Draw a ball.
  2. Color it blue, for the ocean.
  3. Draw some landmasses in green, brown, tan and every color in between on the ocean.
  4. Add some white clouds covering the ball.
  5. Add a light shining blue ring around the ball to represent the atmosphere.
