History[edit | edit source]

In 1848, Switzerland became a federal state with a new constitution. She grew economically with industries like textiles and machinery. Even during World War I and World War II, Switzerland stayed neutral. But she faced issues about its banking laws and accusations of helping the German Third Reich.

After World War II, Switzerland progressed economically and politically. In 1947, she joined the File:Icon base.png General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT), showing her support for global trade. Swiss women gained federal voting rights in 1971. Despite her neutrality policy, Switzerland joined the United Nations in 2002.

Switzerland introduced euro banknotes and coins in 2002, replacing older Swiss currency denominations. Despite the global financial crisis in 2008, Switzerland stayed economically stable compared to other nations. Then, in 2014, Swiss voters barely agreed to limit immigration from European Union countries, causing tension with the EU.

🧀 Cheese 🧀[edit | edit source]

Swiss cheese, often characterized by its distinctive holes and mild, nutty flavor, is a beloved dairy product originating from Switzerland. The holes, or "eyes," in Swiss cheese are created by carbon dioxide gas released by bacteria during the fermentation process. This cheese typically features a pale yellow color and a firm yet slightly elastic texture. Emmental cheese, one of the most famous types of Swiss cheese, is known for its large eyes and is often used in fondue and sandwiches. Swiss cheese is made from cow's milk and undergoes a unique aging process that enhances its flavor and texture. Its versatility makes it a popular choice in various culinary applications, from melting on burgers to being enjoyed as part of a cheese platter.
