History

In 2003, USA under George W. Bush sent an invasion to topple and liberate Iraq from Saddam Hussein's regime. This succeeds, and the Coalition Provisional Authority began disbanding the Ba'ath army and expelling Ba'athists from the new government. The insurgents fought against the coalition forces and the newly installed government. Saddam was captured and executed. The Shia-Sunni civil war took place from 2006 to 2008. The coalition forces were criticized for war crimes, such as massacres, torture and rape. But, the insurgents have also committed such atrocities, including kidnap, torture, and murder of even more inhumane levels. The Mainstream Media covers up the torture methods of the insurgents while trumpeting outrage at the far milder US techniques. Barack Obama declared an official end to the US troops in Iraq on August 31, 2010 and ceased funding the War on Terror in 2009. US troops pulled out in 2011.

The subsequent efforts to rebuild the country amidst sectarian violence and the rise of the Islamic State began after the war. Iraq was galvanized by the civil war in Syria. After some operations, ISIS was removed from Iraq in 2019.

2020 does not seem the best year for Iraq, one of his generals got killed in an airstrike by USA which caused Iraq to make a vote to remove American soldiers from his clay. In February 2020, Iraq had his first infection of coronavirus which caused him to close many of his borders and schools. In 2022, protests occurred due to instability and close ties with Iran.

However, in 2023, good things has come as Iraq is hosting the 25th Arabian Gulf Cup after being isolated since Saddam's rise. Iraq even ended up becoming the winner of the Gulf Cup.
