Template:UnderConTemplate:CountryInfoArgentina, officially known as the Argentine Republic, is located in the southern part of South America. Spanning an area of 2,780,400 km² (1,073,500 sq mi), he is the second-largest country in South America after
Brazil, the fourth-largest in the Americas, and the eighth-largest in the world. Argentina shares most of the Southern Cone with
Chile to the west and is bordered by
Bolivia and
Paraguay to the north,
Brazil to the northeast,
Uruguay and the south
Atlantic Ocean to the east, and the
Drake Passage to the south.
Argentina is sometimes considered a rising power (not a potential superpower, though), meaning they have been able to join many international organisations, like
Mercosur, the
Organization of American States, and, of course, the
United Nations (like every other sovereign country). He also used to be a part of the
Union of South American Nations.
Argentina usually doesn't start discussions but can get very aggressive when he feels insulted, or when other countryballs make fun of him pointing at yuo, . But most of the time he is a very welcoming, magnetic and friendly ball, just like his adoptive parent,
Brazil
Italy.
History
Early Years
In 1861, the
Argentine Confederation engaged in conflict with the
State of Buenos Ayres. The war concluded with
Buenos Ayres being annexed by the
Confederation, leading to the formation of modern-day
Argentina. Subsequently,
Buenos Aires initiated another civil war, resulting in the unification of the remaining provinces under a unitario government.
Wars and Allies
Argentina secretly supported the
Colorado government in his effort to take over
Uruguay, while the
Brazilian Empire directly attacked
Uruguay to assist. In 1864,
Paraguay attacked the
Brazilian Empire, possibly to support his ally or to gain direct access to the sea.
Paraguay requested passage through Argentina to reach
Uruguay, but was denied, leading to an attack on Argentina. Consequently,
Uruguay, the
Brazilian Empire, and Argentina formed an alliance and defeated
Paraguay. During the conflict, Argentina also dealt with a confederate revolt.
In 1870 Argentina conquered the
Chaco, killing a big part of the
inhabitant in the process, at the same time Argie stopped another confederate revolt. During 1870 and 1874 Argentina had a civil war when the Mitrists from
Buenos Aires revolted because
Domingo Faustino Sarmiento got the presidency and not
Bartolomé Mitre, but they ended up losing the war.
In 1879, during the War of the
Pacific, Argentina was considering helping
Bolivia and
Peru. But
Chile offered him the majority of the
Patagonia if he doesn't intervene, and Argentina took the deal. After the war, Argentina and
Chile almost killed
Wallmapu to death and took all of his clay.
In 1880 Argentina had a civil war again, this time
Buenos Aires started the conflict because he wanted the
capital to be part of him, the also
Mitrist Corrientes helped him, but both were beaten. Around 1885-1886 Argentina took most of the
Puna de Atacama from
Bolivia after invading him. During the
Russo-Japanese
War, the
Empire of Japan and Argentina became friends after he sold them ships as support.
Interior Issues
From 1891 to 1916, Argentina experienced conflicts between the ruling
conservative oligarchy, known as the
National Autonomist Party, and the
Radical Civic Union (UCR), largely due to the
oligarchy's control over the political system. Although the oligarchy initially suppressed the
UCR's revolts, the
UCR eventually gained power after electoral reforms, leading to its victory in the 1916 elections and the establishment of
UCR as the ruling party.
In 1913,
CABA invented an underground tram similar to the one that
London had built using some artifacts that
Belgium gave him. In 1969,
CDMX stole that invention and sent it to be imported throughout Latin America.
