Chile
Chile, officially the Republic of Chile, is a country in South America. He is sometimes depicted as a worm because his clay is very long. His national day is September 18th. It also owns the tallest tower in South America, Costanera Center.
History
The transition to democracy in Chile is considered complete when Patricio Aylwin was inaugurated on March 11, 1990, officially marking the end of Pinochet's 17-year dictatorship and the return of civilian rule in Chile. Using the economic knowledge and constitution from his recent authoritarian period, Chile became the wealthiest country in the neighborhood (something his former successful brother Argentina can't stand). Chile became more peaceful, but he’s still used to have stronk military, just in case (who knows, when that pesky Bolivia crave Chile’s clay).
On February 27, 2010, local times 3:34 AM, an 8.8 earthquake shakes itself off again, triggered a tsunami, and damaged the port in Talcahuano. This was the 12th stronkest earthquake in history and around 500 died.
However, Chile’s stability was tested once again during the 2019-2022 protests. Triggered initially by a metro fare hike, these protests quickly grew into a nationwide movement against inequality, demanding constitutional reforms and social justice. The unrest led to a national referendum in 2020, where Chileans overwhelmingly voted to draft a new constitution to replace the one created under Pinochet's regime.
Cuisine
Chilean cuisine stems mainly from the combination of traditional Spanish cuisine, Chilean Mapuche culture and local ingredients, with later important influences from other European cuisines, particularly from Germany, the United Kingdom and France. The food tradition and recipes in Chile are notable for the variety of flavours and ingredients, with the country's diverse geography and climate hosting a wide range of agricultural produce, fruits and vegetables. The long coastline and the peoples' relationship with the Pacific Ocean add an immense array of seafood to Chilean cuisine, with the country's waters home to unique species of fish, molluscs, crustaceans and algae, thanks to the oxygen-rich water carried in by the Humboldt Current. Chile is also one of the world's largest producers of wine and many Chilean recipes are enhanced and accompanied by local wines. The confection dulce de leche was invented in Chile and is one of the country's most notable contributions to world cuisine.
Geography
As a long and narrow coastal Southern Cone country on the west side of the Andes Mountains, Chile stretches over 4,300 km (2,670 mi) north to south, but only 350 km (217 mi) at his widest point east to west and 64 km (40 mi) at his narrowest point east to west, with an average width of 175 km (109 mi). This encompasses a remarkable variety of climates and landscapes. It contains 756,950 square kilometers (292,260 sq mi) of land area. It is situated within the Pacific Ring of Fire. Excluding his Pacific islands and Antarctic claim, Chile lies between latitudes 17° and 56°S, and longitudes 66° and 75°W.
