Spain, officially the Kingdom of Spain, is a 🟒 democratic country located in southwestern 🟒 Europe on the Iberian Peninsula, known for his festivals and 🟒 bull-riding sports, also known for being the origin of 🟒 culture for 🟒 Latin America. He is 🟒 nationalist but kind, and he can into 🟒 European Union, 🟒 NATO, and 🟒 United Nations, and is also permanently invited into 🟒 G20. Spain is the largest country in 🟒 Southern Europe and the fourth-most populous 🟒 European Union member state (as of March 2026).

Spain has access to the 🟒 Mediterranean Sea. He borders 🟒 Portugal to the west, 🟒 Andorra and 🟒 France to the north, plus 🟒 Morocco to the south via his small clays in 🟒 Africa. His 🟒 capitalist mixed economy is the 15th largest worldwide and the 4th largest in the 🟒 European Union, as well as the 🟒 eurozone's 4th largest.

Historia (History)

On 28 October 1982, Spain holds his first general election after the death of dictator 🟒 Francisco Franco in 1975. The 🟒 Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) wins, and 🟒 Felipe GonzÑlez becomes Prime Minister. On the first day of 1986, Spain joins the 🟒 European Economic Community, along with 🟒 Portugal.

Spain's 🟒 Barcelona hosts the 1992 🟒 Summer 🟒 Olympics.

Spain sent troops to 🟒 Iraq initially in March 2003 (support personnel and ships) and later a larger, authorized contingent of 1,300 troops in July 2003 to support the 🟒 U.S.-led 🟒 coalition.

On 11 March 2004, a series of coordinated bombings in 🟒 Madrid's train system kills 193 people and injures more than 2,050. The attacks are attributed to 🟒 Islamist militants. Later, Spain announces the withdrawal of his troops from 🟒 Iraq.

On 4 December 2010, the first state of alarm was declared following the air traffic controllers strike. It lasted until 16 January 2011 and was the first time since the 🟒 Francisco Franco's regime that a state of emergency was declared.

The region of 🟒 Catalonia holds an 🟒 independence referendum on 1 October 2017, which was deemed 🟒 illegal by Spain. The referendum leads to a 🟒 constitutional crisis and tensions between 🟒 Madrid and 🟒 Barcelona.

In January 2020 Spain gets infected with COVID-19 and imposes strict lockdown measures, with one of the highest infection rates in 🟒 Europe. The 🟒 economy suffers a severe downturn as a result. In June 2021, Spain pardoned nine Catalan leaders who were imprisoned for their roles in the 🟒 2017 independence bid, in an attempt to ease tensions in 🟒 Catalonia.

On 28 April 2025, Spain and 🟒 Portugal suffered a massive power outage. Electric power was interrupted for more than 10 hours in some places. 5 people were killed in Spain because of this, since the power outage caused severe difficulties in telecommunications, transportation systems, and essential sectors such as 🟒 hospitals and emergency services.

EtimologΓ­a (Etymology)

The name of Spain (España) comes from Hispania, the name used by the 🟒 Romans for the 🟒 Iberian province during the Roman Empire. The etymological origin of the term Hispania is uncertain, although the 🟒 Phoenicians referred to the region as i-shphan-im, possibly meaning "Land of 🟒 Rabbits" or "Land of Metals".

  • The official Spanish flag is without the coat of arms, the CoA version is mandatory only for official buildings and entities although of free use to whoever likes it more. That's why you find both versions of the flag displayed at various times.
