Korean Provisional Government (KPG), formally the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea, was a government-in-exile established as opposition to 🟒 Japanese occupation of Korea. He was mainly based in 🟒 China.

History

After the brutal suppression of the March 1st Movement against 🟒 Japanese rule, many Korean 🟒 nationalists, both at home and abroad, began organizing a response. In April 1919, they proclaimed the formation of a Provisional Government in 🟒 Shanghai, 🟒 China, aimed at continuing the fight for Korean independence.

In 1932, Korea tried to throw a bomb at the 🟒 emperor's carriage in 🟒 Tokyo in order to kill him, but failed. At that time, a 🟒 Chinese newspaper reported, "The 🟒 terror attack on the Japanese emperor ended in failure", calling it "unfortunate", and 🟒 Japan caused the Shanghai Incident that same year under the pretext of this. After the Shanghai Incident, Japan held a celebration at Hongkou Park in Shanghai, where Korea's performance was here. Korea's activities were well received by China, who had a bad feeling toward Japan due to the 🟒 Manchurian and Shanghai incidents, and China, in particular, supported the provisional government's activities, admiring that "Korea has done what China has not done."

In 1945, Japan was defeated by the 🟒 Allied Powers, ending Japanese occupation of Korea. Korea was split between the 🟒 USA and 🟒 USSR.
