The People’s Republic of Korea was a short-lived provisional government established in Korea after the surrender of Empire of Japan in WWII. A lot of this government got hijacked by commies.

History

On 15 August 1945, the Empire of Japan surrendered to the Allied Powers in Korea. Soviet Union continued fighting Japan in Chongjin, a key northern port city. With the Soviet Red Army occupying the northern part of Korea and the U.S. taking control of the south, the Korean peninsula was divided along the 38th parallel as temporary occupation, but we know how that worked out and this set the stage for future tensions .

The PRK was established, and a bunch of communist committees backed by no other than the Soviet Union himself. The committees started to assert control and take over the north and also attempted to take the south and unite Korea under Communism[1], but United States of America did allow it and decided to get rid of all the committees in the south. Tensions erupted in the south, notably in the Jeju Uprising in April 1948, where local resistance to the division and suppression of far-left movements resulted in violent clashes between the Workers' Party of South Korea and US-backed allies. USA established his own government in 12 December 1945, dissolving the PRK in the South. In the North, the committees eventually made their own communist government, dissolving the rest of the PRK.
