The European Union, often shortened as the EU, is an economic and political union between multiple European states, established by
Germany and
France in 1993 (he is the son of them as well). He have his own currency, called the
Euro. He contains 5.8% of
Earth's population as of 2024.
Combined, he has the second-largest economy behind
USA (of course) and has the largest single market in the world. He is a member of
G20 and is sometimes even being described as a (potential) superpower. With many of his major achievements, he is seen as an inspiration for other supernational unions such as
ASEAN (not really, ASEAN formed earlier),
African Union, and
Vodka Union. He has many
welfare programs that have become untenable.
The European Union, especially his flag, is sometimes used to represent
Europe as a whole. He's an
inbred due to his
parents
being cousins.
History
20th Century
After WWII, European integration was seen as an antidote to the
extreme nationalism which had devastated the
continent. 1952 saw the creation of
European Coal and Steel Community, which was declared to be a first step in the
federation of Europe.
In 1957, the founding members signed the Treaty of
Rome, which created the
European Economic Community and established a customs union.
They also signed another pact creating the
European Atomic Energy Community (Euratom) for cooperation in developing nuclear energy.
EEC and
Euratom were created separately from
ECSC, although they shared the same courts and the
Common Assembly. In 1965 an agreement was reached and on 1 July 1967, the Merger Treaty created a single set of institutions for the three communities, which were collectively referred to as the European Communities.
21st Century
In the 21st century, EU is going though a series of crises, like the
Syrian refugees,
Brexit,
Eurozone, and the
War in
Donbas ![]()
, a
military intervention between
Russia and
Ukraine.
During the 2008 financial crisis, the
PRC exploited weaker European economies that were in urgent need of foreign investment. The
Party injected large sums of money into these countries in exchange for compromises on issues such as international rule of law and human rights. It used this method to create and expand the divisions among European countries and then reaped the benefits. Countries targeted by the CCP include
Greece,
Spain,
Italy, and
Hungary.
In 2008,
Russia invaded
Georgia, but still the EU didn't care enough to build up his military. This goes the same for
Crimea in 2014, and like usual, EU insisted on doing business instead.
The
United Kingdom left the EU in 2020, and cracks are beginning to show. Now,
Germany and
France aware the biggest powers in the EU, and a lot of other EU states aren't happy about that, especially since France and Germany can't agree on anything.
In 2020 EU sanctioned
Ethiopia due to things related to the
Tigray conflict.
After the economic crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the EU leaders agreed for the first time to create common debt to finance the European Recovery Program called Next Generation EU (NGEU).
In 2022,
Russia invaded
Ukraine, but still the EU held back on ramping up his own military. It was only when
Donald J. Trump came into office as
US's new president in 2024 that Europe finally began to spend more on military.
The EU has been cozying up to
PRC in the past decades due to economic reasons, and they are each other's largest trading partner as of 2023. This caused the EU to stay silent on China's human rights abuses.
Europe suffered a massive heatwave in the
summer of 2026, with over 1,300 dying due to Europeans not using AC units.
