The Western Bloc, also known as the Capitalist Bloc, is an informal, collective term for countries that were officially allied with the 
United States during the Cold War of 1947-1991. While the 
NATO member states, in 
Western Europe and 
Northern America, were pivotal to the bloc, Western Alliance included many other countries, in the broader 
Asia-Pacific 
region, the 
Middle East, 
Latin America, and 
Africa with 
histories of 
anti-Soviet, 
anti-communist and, in many cases 
anti-socialist, ideologies and policies.
While the core members of the Western Bloc are 
democracies, many other members are 
authoritarian capitalist and/or 
monarchies.
History
The Western Bloc descended from the disintegration of the 
Allied Powers after WWII ended, there were already tensions between the Western camp and 
Eastern camp. With the Cold War starting in 1947, two blocs officially formed, one of which was the Western Bloc, led by the United States.
Western Bloc began to repel the 
Eastern Bloc, or the Soviet Union's bloc. Many countries who were concerned with rising communist influences (which were exported by USSR or 
PRC) became anti-communist, all aligning with the Western bloc.
