Ukraine is a wheat-producing 🟢 Slavic country in 🟢 Eastern Europe, known for his tensions against his older 🟢 imperialist brother 🟢 Russia. Ukraine is known as the "Breadbasket of 🟢 Europe" because he makes lots of wheat, and 🟢 Germany gives him helmets.

Ukraine is the second-largest European country after Russia and the biggest country entirely in Europe, who borders him to the east and northeast. He also borders 🟢 Belarus to the north; 🟢 Poland, 🟢 Slovakia, and 🟢 Hungary to the west; and 🟢 Romania and 🟢 Moldova to the southwest; with a coastline along the 🟢 Black Sea and the 🟢 Sea of Azov to the south and southeast.

Ukraine cannot into many 🟢 international organizations. However, Ukraine can into 🟢 United Nations, like most other countries. He is currently trying to enter 🟢 European Union and 🟢 NATO. Still, it is highly unlikely due to the ongoing 🟢 war against 🟢 Russia.

Ukraine declared 🟢 independence from the 🟢 Soviet Union on 24 August 1991, with 🟢 Leonid Kravchuk becoming his first 🟢 president. A referendum in December confirmed this decision with overwhelming support. On 2 December 1991, 🟢 Poland and 🟢 Canada were the first countries to recognize Ukraine's independence. This was a time of transition for Ukraine; while he had attained nominal independence from 🟢 Russia, his presidents maintained close ties with Ukraine's neighbors.

In 1994, 🟢 Leonid Kuchma succeeded Kravchuk as president, and on 1 June 1996 he agreed to let Ukraine became a non-nuclear nation, sending the last of the 1,900 strategic nuclear warheads he had inherited from the Soviet Union to Russia for dismantling in exchange for security assurances from 🟢 Russia, the 🟢 United States, and the 🟢 United Kingdom under the 🟢 Budapest Memorandum.

In 2010, 🟢 Yanukovych won the presidency. He struck a deal with 🟢 Russia that extended the lease for the 🟢 Russian navy in 🟢 Crimea. By 2013 Yanukovych's decision to suspend a trade agreement with the European Union in favor of closer ties with Russia ignited the 🟢 Euromaidan protests, escalating into 🟢 violent clashes. Yanukovych fled the country in February 2014, and shortly afterwords Russia annexed Crimea following a disputed referendum in March. To add to that, pro-Russian 🟢 separatists declared independence in April, establishing breakaway states of the 🟢 Donetsk and 🟢 Luhansk regions, causing conflict in eastern Ukraine.

🟢 Petro Poroshenko was 🟢 elected 🟢 president in May 2014, aiming to strengthen ties with the Western world. The tragic downing of 🟢 Malaysian Airlines Flight MH17 in July 2014, attributed to a missile linked to 🟢 Russia, intensified international scrutiny and condemnation of Russia's 🟢 imperialistic actions in Ukraine. In 2017, Ukraine signed an association agreement with the 🟢 EU, facilitating free trade and visa-free travel for Ukrainians.

🟢 Volodymyr Zelenskyy, a former 🟢 comedian, won the presidency in 2019, defeating Poroshenko on a platform of 🟢 anti-corruption and 🟢 peace in eastern Ukraine. His party, 🟢 Servant of the People, secured a 🟢 parliamentary majority. In 2021, Zelenskyy sought 🟢 NATO membership for Ukraine, which prompted 🟢 paranoid Russia to increase his military presence near Ukraine's borders, escalating tensions.

On 24 February 2022, 🟢 Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, significantly escalating things and leading to widespread international condemnation and substantial military and humanitarian impacts. The invasion has profoundly affected global 🟢 politics and the security landscape in 🟢 Europe. On 24 July 2024, Ukraine tried to convince 🟢 China to make peace between him and Russia, but to no avail probably because China supplied a bunch of weapons for Russia and is also a close ally of Russia (as if that wasn't clear enough). In 6 August 2024, Ukraine made a comeback and invaded Russia.

In November 2024, 🟢 Biden authorized the launch of ballistic missiles from Ukraine into Russia. The 🟢 war has long been in a stalemate, almost no advances and retreats have been made in a year. Russia and Ukraine are deadlocked, and people are losing their lives over nothing. Something has to change, but things are dragging out. The Russian invasion of Ukraine is still happening today as of May 2026, but the media's attention had gone to 🟢 Israel and 🟢 Palestine long ago.
